 Sgian dubh is Gaelic for " black dagger". It was usually a weapon of last resort and was kept concealed and exhibited in the presence of a host out of courtesy, ususally in the stocking where it could be seen. This tradition is maintained today and the sgian dubh remains a very traditional part of Highland dress. |
